The BAFM One Day Conference & AGM will be held on Saturday 30th September 2017 at London Transport Museum, Covent Garden, London WC2.
The theme is Museums, Members and Friends: A harmonious relationship? We will explore the relationships between Museums and their Friends’ organisations, against a background of a trend for museums to set up their own membership schemes.
The first keynote speech How to develop enduring Friendships will be given by Mike Zeidler, Partnership manager of “Happy City”. Mike’s presentation will address the wellbeing benefits of volunteering and the significant influence volunteers can have on the ‘feel’ of a place. He will examine the issue of relationships and ways of keeping channels clear, appreciative and constructive between Friends and their chosen Museums.
The second keynote presentation will be a “two-hander” by Sam Mullins, London Transport Museum Director, and Barry LeJeune, Chairman of the London Transport Museum Friends. They will explain the positive relationship between these two separate, but supportive, bodies, describing past successes and future challenges.
In the afternoon session, there will be the BAFM AGM and short presentations on the conference theme by three other London Museums and a general “open forum” discussion.
Participants will have the opportunity to look round London Transport Museum during the lunch break. The conference will conclude with a drinks reception at St.Paul’s Church, Covent Garden (“the actors’ church”). On Sunday, an optional programme of visits will be offered.
