BAFM NATIONAL CONFERENCE & AGM – 2021

NEW – In view of the current situation regarding Covid 19, the BAFM National Conference to have been held in 2020 has been postponed until AUTUMN 2021.

The 2020 AGM was to be held in Dundee, on 9th to 11th October, at the Discovery Point. The intention is still to assemble there next year. Thus arrangements have been agreed with organisations and people in Dundee to find the most agreeable dates. You will be advised once a decision has been reached.

In recent years Dundee has undergone a transformation from a fading post-industrial city to an exciting cultural destination with fantastic museums and heritage venues, including the newly opened V&A Dundee, Scotland’s first design museum, shortlisted for the Museum of the Year award in 2019.
Together with world-class museums to explore like The McManus, Dundee’s art gallery and museum, and Discovery Point, delegates will also be able to take in the natural beauty of the surrounding area, sample the delicious local food culture and more besides. A highlight will be a reception on board the RRS Discovery that took Scott and Shackleton on their first expedition to Antarctica.
Dundee is 5½ hours direct from London by train and just over an hour from Edinburgh. The hotels, conference venue and station are all within 10 minutes walking distance, making it an accessible destination.

Coming together with like-minded people

BAFM exists to support and encourage friends of museums, and the conference is the perfect opportunity to be inspired by the latest work going on in our sector and take away practical advice.
The theme of this conference is Volunteering. Our speakers and workshops will explore topics such as:-
How can you run a successful volunteer recruitment drive?
How does volunteering promote wellbeing?
What is the value of volunteering to museums?

How can I get involved?

If you or your Friends group would like to be part of the conference programme please contact us to discuss your ideas. We would like to hear about interesting volunteering projects that could be included as case studies. We would also like to know of any new research or evaluation you or the museum you support may have carried out. What could other Friends learn from your experience?
We are looking for examples from all sizes and types of group. Your project may be entirely self managed, or may be a project managed by a museum professional. It could be a short term project or a long-running programme It might involve a few individuals or a large team. We know Friends across the country are involved in a wide variety of voluntary activities and would like the conference programme to reflect this.
If you feel it could inspire our delegates we would like to hear from you.
