Joann Fletcher's talkl Celebrating Tutankhamun

Joann Fletcher

This month marks possibly the most famous find in archaeological find in history, the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun! To celebrate this famous event, The Friends of Doncaster Museum have invited Joann Fletcher to give a talk at the Danum Gallery Library and Museum. On 26th November the Friends welcome back this renowned Egyptologist as it’s almost 4 years since Joann came to discuss the story of Egypt and aspects of the small collection of objects in Doncaster Museum relating to the World of the Pharaohs. Her talk was hugely popular and shone a light on a little-known aspect of the ‘World Cultures’ collection at the museum. Joann was born on a council estate in Barnsley but was fascinated by ancient history from an early age. She is now visiting Professor in Egyptology at York University. You may be interested to view her series ‘Immortal Egypt’ which be seen on the BBC ‘catch up’. We’re delighted to welcome her back in advance of next year’s 50th BAFM Conference and AGM which will be held in Doncaster of 30th September 2023. The theme of the Conference is ‘Regeneration’ and will feature Joann as one of the keynote speakers. The Friends of Doncaster Museums have reserved several spaces for members of BAFM, both individuals and members of affiliated groups for this event.
